"You're disgusting" the mare snorted, nipping at Wordsworth's shoulder, drawing blood.
"Who would love such an ugly mare anyways?" another stood, towering over the petite hairless and frightened Wordsworth. "You're nothing, I hope you know that" she spat, causing her to cower away.
"Just what the hell do you think you're doing?" a large, dark stallion bellowed from behind them. The two mares shot around to face him, and despite being larger they were nowhere close to his size. "Leave, now. If I catch you bothering anyone again, we'll have trouble" he raised his head higher, his muscles rippling under his grullo coat.
Wordsworth began to shrink away, her shoulder dripping blood from the bully's bite. "HEY!" she heard the stallion call, but she tried her best to ignore him. That is until he quickly caught up to her, and followed her all the way to her stall.
He stood, watching her lick the wound on her shoulder. "What's your name?" he asked cautiously stepping closer.
"What do you want?" she sighed, slipping into one of her favorite sweaters once the wound was cleaned.
"I just want to help, someone as beautiful as you doesn't deserve that kind of torture" he smiled, and snuggling into her neck. "You are beautiful" he reiterated to her.
"Wordsworth" she cracked a small smile, leaning closer into him. "My name is Wordsworth"
He smiled, looking up to meet her gaze. "It's nice to finally meet you Wordsworth, I'm Warden" he felt his heart beat quicken when she snuggled under his neck. The chilly breeze blew in, a warning of Winter.
"I'll protect you, all right?" Warden stepped away, to admire her in her sweater. He could stare at her for years, and get lost in those memorizing eyes. "I won't let anyone hurt you anymore, I don't see why they do anyway. I've seen you around, and I've always thought you were gorgeous since the first day you arrived" he could feel the heat in his cheeks.
"What a charming confession" she giggled, looking down. She felt something she's never felt before. The need to be with someone, the hope of being happy, a first love.
"Do you....?" he trailed off, shaking his head. He didn't quite know how to approach this, as he too had never really felt this way. It's always been minor crushes, or just a summer love. He's had four beautiful foals, but never with someone he'd want to spend the rest of his life with. Finally, he found that special girl.
"We'll see" she prompted, flicking her tail with a sly smile. "I like you Warden, I'll give you that" she stepped out of her stall, and towards the field she was in before. Warden not far behind her, already trapped under her unique beauty.
"Winter's coming. How about, when Spring arrives, you tell me if you want to be my mate" he bargained, walking around to her side so they could be together.
"Hm, I like that. 'Til spring then, Warden" she began to trot off, only to hear him shout. "Impress me if you can~" she turned back, then galloped off leaving him frustrated, but still in awe.
