"Sidariiiiiiiiiii!"
"Uh oh." Sid's ears flew back as he heard his name called. He flinched; Dakota only used Sid's full name when she was upset with him. He slowly turned to see what she wanted, ears flat to his skull. He knew this probably wouldn't end well.
"Sands of Sidari!" The mare practically flew towards him, and he could see a quiet anger in her eyes. Quickly, he thought about what he had done that day that would have made her mad. His mate was visiting from the neighboring Ironwood Stables, and they had spent the whole day together. He had greeted her with great excitement when she arrived, and had immediately started into a story of him finding a large garden spider in Belle's stable. That had made Dakota laugh, which in turn had made Sid smile. He loved her laugh, as it reminded him of the birds that sung in the morning. It was a beautiful noise, much like she was a beautiful mare. He was brought out of his thoughts when Dakota almost ran into him.
"Sands of Sidari, you have been keeping secrets!" she said, staring him down. Now, instead of anger in her eyes, there was a shine of excitement. Sid frowned, wondering what she was talking about.
"Secrets?" he asked. "I don't know-" She cut in.
"I was just talking to an appaloosa mare, and she said there was a gorgeous view of the ocean near here!" Dakota explained. Sid could see her imagining the view, and he had to stop himself from smiling. Her excitement reminded him why the two were mates in the first place.
"Why have you not shown me this?" Dakota huffed, tail swishing. Sid thought she almost looked offended. He sighed, trying very hard not to laugh.
"You never asked. Would you like to see it now?"
The mare's eyes lit up, and she jumped into the air.
"Yes, yes, yes!" she cried. "Please, oh won't you take me to see it?" Sid smiled.
"Of course."

The sky was beginning to darken when Sid knew they were close. The wind at the top of the cliff was stronger, and smelled of the ocean and the sand of the beach below. He looked up at the sky, checking the time. The sun would be setting soon, and he wanted Dakota to be able to see the view.
"We're almost there, just a little further." he told her, as the forest began to thin. They stepped out into the open, right on the edge of the cliff. Below them, the beach, the cove, and the stables looked tiny, like the toys the human children played with. In front of them, the ocean spread as far as they could see. He turned to look at Dakota, and smiled when he saw the look on her face.
"What do you think?" he asked her, watching the sun disappear into the water.
"Its....its indescribable." she replied, not turning to look at him. Her eyes were fixed on the view, and Sid could tell that she loved it.
"I'm so glad you like it." he replied, standing close enough to touch his shoulder to hers. He followed her gaze, watching the sun go down, and wished that they could stand together like this for the rest of time.
