The street was dark, and the air deathly silent. Batman knew that something was wrong, but he couldn't quite put his finger - or rather hoof - on what it was. He took a few steps forward, then stopped, right in the middle of the street. He closed his eyes and took a breath. He was Batman, superhero extraordinaire, and he had the power of mind reading.
He had been in his top secret lair, enjoying an apple and just lazing about, when a call came through from the mayor of Tolterville. The hideous Spider Beast was attacking the city, and it was Batman that needed to do something about it. He had flown out of the lair (Yes, he had the power of flight too. He was awesome.) and landed in the city center. There, a battle had ensued between hero and villain. Batman had successfully managed to drive the creature off, but had accidentally lost track of it. Now, he needed to find it again.
Focusing all of his attention on the matter at hand, he cleared his mind of all other thoughts. He could hear...something. It was like a loud scraping, scratching noise, and he presumed it was the giant arachnid constructing one of its poisonous webs. It was coming from the East, so he opened his eyes and galloped - no, flew - towards it. He would have to use his laser vision to burn away the web, or all of the citizens of Tolterville would be in grave danger.
Out of nowhere, a huge explosion erupted from a building to his right. The shockwaves sent him catapulting to the ground, his ears ringing from the noise...
Batman opened his eyes, gasping. He looked around, trying to understand what had hit him. Shaking away the pounding in his head, he noticed another Tolter laying a few yards away from him. He immediately presumed that this was who had barreled into him, and he stood up, furious. Everyone here knew that it was dangerous to interrupt one of Batman's daydreams.
"What are you doing?!" he cried, staring down at the other horse. "You ruined it!"
The blue roan appaloosa below him lifted his head to look at him. Batman noticed that the colt was smiling, almost grinning, and that he was holding back a laugh. This only made Batman angrier, and he found himself pawing at the ground.
"Well?!"
The other horse stood up, shaking the dirt from his mane. He gave Batman a confused but friendly look.
"Ruined what?" the colt asked, looking past Batman. He seemed to be looking for someone.
"Ruined the story! I was just about to win the fight, when you crashed into me and ruined everything!" Batman sighed, defeated. It was obvious that this other horse didn't really care. When Batman looked up again, the other horse had calmed down.
"Fight? Story?" the colt questioned. "Were you playing a game?"
Batman nodded. "That's right. I'm the hero, about to defeat the monster." The colt's next question took Batman by surprise.
"Can I play?"
At first, Batman was reluctant. This was the horse that had run into him, and possibly cost him the battle with the Spider Beast. However, the more he thought about it, the more he liked the idea. After all, two heroes was better than one.
"Fine, but you have to do as I say." he told him.
"Ok! I'm Chase by the way."

The Spider Beast let out a shriek of anguish and pain. Batman's laser eyes had burned through its web, and had damaged one of its legs. Batman smiled; the battle was almost one.
The hero glanced at his sidekick, who was slowly flying up behind the beast. Chase used his fiery breath to burn away the rest of the web, and to catch the Spider Beast's attention. He ducked and dodged out of the way of the monster's flailing legs, careful not to get hit by them. Batman lined up behind the beast, then charged. With a terrible shriek, the creature was finished. Then suddenly, he heard a voice.
"Chase! Chase!" The call of a mother mare sounded across the field. Batman looked at Chase, a smile on his face.
"That was fun." he said, walking over to the other colt. Chase nodded, tail swishing.
"Can we play again sometime? But this time, can I be the hero?"
"...I'll think about it." Batman replied, watching the other colt trot back to his mother.
